Following a trip of inspection around the city, yesterday, Rotarian Governor “Joe” Hanley, was struck with the beautiful appearance of the city. He was much impressed with all the signs of prosperity and all he saw. But when he came to the War Memorial in Memorial Park, he stood a long time. He then remarked, “This is one of the finest momentums I have seen – the idea behind it has been wonderfully conceived.”

STRUCK BY TRAIN INJURIES FATAL
October 22nd 1926

Guelph, Oct. 22 – Albert Mallen, aged about 55 died at 5 o’clock this morning as a result of terrible injuries received on the C.P.R. crossing at Allan Bridge here when a freight train ran over him. Just how the accident happened is not known there being no eye witnesses.

ONE MORE DIES BY POSIONOUS LIQUOR
October 22nd 1926

Huntsville, Oct. 21. – Illicit distilled liquor has claimed another victim. At the adjourned inquest held in the Court House here this afternoon into the cause of the death of Alfred Tedford the jury found that Tedford came to his death as a result of an organic disease, and that his death was hastened by the effects of over-indulgence of illicit distilled liquor.

Chicago, Oct. 20. – Every time gangsters open a fusillade in Chicago, the bored police of this windy and exciting city being hunting for “Scarface Al” Capone. This underworld figure is always blamed for such crimes as last week’s shooting, but never have the police been able to gather evidence against him sufficiently weighty to convince a judge and jury.

GOVERNMENT SALE PLAN IS SOLUTION BOOTLEGGING EVIL

Kemptville, Oct. 22. – The liquor control proposals on which the Conservative Government in the province of Ontario is appealing to the lectors were explained to his own constituent and to his own townsfolks by Premier G. Howard Ferguson here tonight in the opening mass meeting of his campaign.

WOMAN BREAKS RECORD SWIM ALBANY TO N.Y.
October 23rd 1926

New York, Oct. 22 – Another name was added to the 1926 casnalty list for champions today when Mrs. Lottie Mooree Schoemmoil finished her Albany-New York swim in 6 hours and 24 minutes less than the record time.

QUEEN MARIE ARRIVES IN TORONTO
October 26th 1926

Toronto. Oct. 26. – Queen Marie arrived here this afternoon completing her day’s journey from Niagara Falls where she quit American soil for Canadian for a brief stay. Marie and her royal party were greeted at the station by Lieutenant Governor Henry Cockshutt, of Ontario, and other officials who escorted the visitors on a tour of the city.

Declares Vegetable Life Exists on Planet Mars
October 28th 1926

Chicago, Ills. Oct. 28. – The certainty that vegetable life exists on Mars from which animal life may be inferred, is expressed by Prof. Phillip Fox, Head of the Dearborn Observatory or the North Western University. “It seems certain that vegetable life exists on Mars and where vegetable life exists, animal life is certain to be, all conditions being equal,” he said.
